The Final conference “Equalizing the Opportunities for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education in the Republic of Croatia” was held on 29th and 30th of November 2012 at the Faculty of Forestry of University of Zagreb.

Along with the Rector of University of Zagreb, Aleksa Bjeliš, PhD, Vice Rector for Students and Study Programmes, Blaženka Divjak, PhD, and the dean of the Faculty of Forestry of University of Zagreb, Milan Oršanić, PhD, the opening ceremony of the conference was addressed by Ombudsperson for Persons with Disabilities, Anka Slonjšak, and Personal Representative and Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Vesna Škulić.

After opening ceremony the manager of the Tempus project EduQuality and president of the Commission for Students with Disabilities of University of Zagreb, Lelia Kiš-Glavaš, PhD, briefly presented the project and project activities.

On the first day of the conference, all local and foreign partners presented the support services available to students with disabilities at their institution. Members of the project administration and coordination team and some project consortium members presented the project results:

• collection of the educational manuals entitled "Students with Disabilities",
• university course "Peer Support for Students with disabilities” (the presentation was also held by students who have participated in the course),
• educational workshops held for teachers, professional and administrative university staff,
• project web site,
• equipment purchased for students with disabilities

On the second day of the conference a Round table discussion on the draft of the national document took place. The leader of Working Group IV outlined the purpose of creating the national document and the national document content (problems of students with disabilities identified in higher education, minimal standards of accessibility of higher education in the Republic of Croatia and recommendations for ensuring the accessibility for students with disabilities) after which the public discussion about the document was held. The participants gave very positive feedback and comments on the draft of the national document.

After the Round table local and foreign project partners held very interesting and useful presentations and workshops about students with different types of disabilities, ensuring accessibility of higher education for these students and their transition from higher education to labour market.

The Conference was attended by 174 participants, including representatives from various institutions and organizations (Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, state Ombudsman for Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, state Agency for Science and Higher Education, state Agency for Mobility and EU programs, National Centre for External Evaluation of Education, City of Zagreb), Croatian universities and other higher education institutions, European universities (University of Gothenburg, Masaryk University, Aarhus University, University of Strathclyde, University of Jyväskyla and University of Sarajevo), the Student Centre in Zagreb, Institute of Public Health“, centre for the education of young people with disabilities, associations for people and students with disabilities), teachers, professional and administrative university staff, students with and without disabilities and media representatives.
